Loosing the Inches!

Titbit from 'Prevention- The Breakthrough Science of Weight Loss' By Dr. R. K. Cooper.
This is great news! Just imagine - small, almost invisible changes in your life will help retain or get you back to that ideal shape. It's not difficult or time-consuming. The very essence of simplicity! Keep reading-
- Ice-water is the secret for boosting metabolism- A German study recently concluded that slowly sipping ice water boosted metabolism - the rate at which you burn calories, by more than 30% for 90 straight minutes. No exercise. No sweating. No dieting. No self-denial.
- Avoid overeating and still get your sweets - If you exceed 500-600 calories at dinner, you venture into the "fat-forming zone." Try postponing dessert by 2 hours. You'll digest most of your dinner, get in physical activity, and not pack on the additional calories of an added "bedtime" snack.
- The amazing anti-hunger hormone - One of your body's most powerful anti-hunger hormones is called cholecystokinin, or CCK. It's found inside your intestinal tract, and it helps signal your brain that you're full. So when CCK is high, you'll probably eat less at a single sitting.
- The fibre factor for weight loss and preventing disease - Adding more fibre to your diet has a stunning, positive impact on your health - and your waistline. It helps lower cholesterol levels and blood pressure. It helps reduce your risk for heart disease and cancer. For weight loss, high-fibre foods help stabilize your body's blood sugar levels and slow down the fat-making process in every corner of your body.

Poor Physical Function and Dementia

Great news from 'Breakthroughs in Health' Vol 1 Issue 2
"Poor Physical Function May Increase the Risk for Dementia and Alzheimer's Disease", says Sherry Baker.
'Physical issues, not mental problems, may signal the beginning of dementia, including Alzheimer's disease, says a joint study by Group Health Cooperative, a Seattle-based nonprofit healthcare system, and the University of Washington, The research, supported by the National Institute on Aging and reported in the medical journal Archives of Internal Medicine in May, provides yet another reason why it's important to exercise to stay healthy.
...."We had expected the earliest signs of dementia would be subtle cognitive changes," notes Eric B. Larson, M.D., M.P.H., who co-authored the study. "But we were surprised to find the physical changes can precede declines in thinking. That suggests that what is considered a brain disease may be intimately connected to physical fitness."
Specific physical weaknesses observed among participants at the beginning of the study turned out to be linked with cognitive problems later......"
The health mantra "Use it or lose it" can no longer be applied to the brain, muscles and heart separately, Dr. Larson says. "Now it appears 'use it or lose it' applies to all aspects of health and general functioning. There's good reason to think there is truly a mind and body connection, and you want to use them both. The results of our study show 'Use it even after you start to lose it' applies. If a person has begun to decline cognitively, it appears we might be able to forestall or reverse mental decline with exercise and efforts to maintain or improve physical function."

Mannatech's cutting-edge scientists have produced PhytoMatrix, a plant-sourced multivitamin and mineral supplement utilising proprietary technology to provide superior delivery of essential vitamin and minerals plus important phytochemicals.

Relaxing Massage

Delivering a delightfully relaxing massage can be a real gift. This ancient practice can soothe tense muscles, de-stress the mind, relax the body and revive the spirit.
The benefits keep flowing; massage increase blood flow and lymph circulation. This in turn carries oxygen and nutrients to cells and aids in the elimination of waste products. Massage also releases endorphins, our body's naturally produced feel-good, pain relieving chemicals.
Because if has been a therapeutic tool for thousands of years, there are various kinds of massage which emanate from different cultures. Basic massage techniques include Swedish and aromatherapy, while remedial and sports techniques help relieve the pain of physical injury. Professional therapists use shiatsu and reflexology to squeeze pressure points which can alleviate various problems in the body.
Touch is vital to our health and well being and massage is a gentle way to connect with the people we care about, regardless of age. You don't need expensive equipment, such as a massage table to give a massage. Here are some tips:
- Lower the lights. If it's during the day, be sure to draw the curtains and play some soothing music.
- Burn essential oils. Lavender is good for headache, for example.
For neck aches, relieve pressure around the neck and shoulders. Start by gently finding 'knots' or tensed muscles and push into these areas gently but firmly with your thumbs.
- For headaches. Squeezing and releasing or putting pressure on the head at the points where the pain is located can relieve discomfort and may help the recipient relax away the pain.

Glyconutrients support your body's natural ability to reach optimum nutritional levels and play a role in enhancing quality of life. Mannatech Inc produces glyconutrients and they are necessary in every cell in your body.

Nutritional Healing

Good advice from 'The Doctors Book of Home Remedies for Women', Editors of Prevention Magazine Health Books.
Does it seem like the last cut you got took forever to heal? Did the bandage seem like part of life forever? Well, the right kind of first-aid, properly cleaning and dressing your wound, to prevent infection, plus good nutrition, plays a big part in speed-healing, says the experts.
"The most important part is to rinse away the dead and injured tissue and the debris that may be in a wound. Bacteria thrive on dead tissue. You want to bring up the fresh, uninjured tissue that heals quickly,' says Dr DiMaio. "Rinsing avoids scarring, if you leave dirt in a wound, not only are you risking infection, you're risking a bad scar- a scar pigmented by the dirt or debris left in it."
"Then smear antibiotic cream to prevent infection and cover the wound. Strong antiseptics containing alcohol or Mercurochrome are irritating - they're caustic, they sting and they kill the good cells in addition to the germs," she says.," says Dr DiMaio.
"People who eat well heal faster than people who don't," she says. "So when you're recovering from a wound, injury or illness, pay special attention to your diet."

Glyconutrition is provided by Mannatech Inc. in their new product PhytoMatrix, a plant-sourced multivitamin and mineral supplement utilising proprietary technology to provide superior important phytochemmicals.
